Malbec Mendoza Cocina 2008
Mendoza, Argentina
$12
haven't tasted yet.
i just read that 2008 was a bad year for malbecs. according to a dec 2010 story by james molesworth at wine spectator, the unusual growing season in 2008 "was marked by a cool, rainy February that delayed ripening. The vineyards eventually dried out, and the grapes were about to catch up when a rare late frost hit in mid-April. Within 48 hours, grapes had turned black and were falling off the vines."
at the independent wine review, the reviewer describes the "plumminess" of the 2008 as being "soured by tart blackberries". The palate is described as "long" but instead of the "layers of flavors unfolding over time" they "arrive together and at once." The "strong tannin structure" is described as adding "astringency". not good.
